This Week in Elastic - July 01, 2015

Welcome to This Week in Elastic! In this weekly round up post, we bring you news on all aspects of the ELK Stack, including updates on Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana development, tips and tricks and upcoming events.

Elastic News

Useful blog posts, how tos, tutorials and articles from the wide world of all the ELK stack ecosystem.

  • Check out our weekly deep dive into the latest developments in Elasticsearch and Apache Lucene. One of this week's highlights includes our upcoming webcast focused on Elasticsearch cluster upgrades.
  • We've also got the The Logstash Lines, our weekly Logstash update. This edition includes some great blog posts from the Logstash community and information about a bunch of performance improvements.
  • For all you lovers of Logstash, we've got more great news. Check out the 1.5.2 release blog post a bug fix release that addresses an important file input issue.
  • Want the inside track on logging with Elasticsearch? Andrei Stefan's Elasticsearch Logging Secrets brings you the basics and a deep dive through some more complex features, including code snippets. Enjoy!
  • Watcher 1.0 has been released as GA! Read on to learn all about Watcher's features, why should give it a try and what's coming next.
  • Kibana 4.1.1. is out, including a number of bug fixes. Get the full story in the release blog post.
  • If you love Kibana, we got great news on a new feature introduced in the 4.1 release family: field formatters. Field formatters allow you to display your data in Kibana the way you prefer to see it, regardless of how it is actually stored in Elasticsearch. You can learn all about how to use this feature in this walk through.
  • For all of you folks anxiously awaiting Elasticsearch 2.0, you'll be thrilled to hear that 2.0.0.beta1 is coming soon! Clinton Gormley brings you all the news you can use about forthcoming improvements.
  • Speaking of upgrading to Elasticsearch v 2.0 - and we know you're planning on it - you won't be able upgrade indices with conflicting field mappings to Elasticsearch v 2.0. Understand what this change means for you and how you can prepare for the Great Mapping Refactoring.
  • You saw that lovely Tweet up there about us making Found even more awesome? Groovy. You can read all about it in Forbes.
  • Jettro Coenradie has shared a great tutorial on taking your first steps with Watcher, including an overview of how Watcher works and some juicy code snippets. Enjoy, and thanks Jettro!
  • Enjoy our news round up? We have even more cool (and different!) how tos on offer in our weekly developer newsletter, Elastic's Thing a Week. Subscribers also receive the invitation to attend our Developer Hangouts live. If you'd like to subscribe - and it's all we'll send you unless you ask for more - just fill out this handy form.

Where to Find You

PSST! If you're a regular reader, you're thinking of skipping this section. You may even be thinking to yourself, yes of course I will drop a note on Twitter when I am giving a talk on all things ELK. That's awesome, because we'd like to showcase every meetup, conference presentation and workshop on Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana happening worldwide. And now, we've made it even easier for you to get support for your meetup!

Head on over to  our meetups page! (And we'll still totally send you swag if you're giving a talk on anything ELKy at a conference.)

Oh yeah, we're also  hiring. If you'd like us to find you for employment purposes, just drop us a note. We care more about your skill set and passion for Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Logstash than where you rest your head.
